Though he’s not garnering much attention in the NFL rumor mill, New York Jets running back Dalvin Cook is a name to monitor leading up to the Oct. 31 trade deadline.
The Jets signed the four-time Pro Bowler to a one-year deal in August, pairing him with fellow star running back Breece Hall. But the latter’s strong play (426 rushing yards and two touchdowns in six games) has mostly kept Cook on the sidelines.
Through six weeks, Cook has seen only 39 carries for 109 yards and no touchdowns. At this point, it only makes sense for the Jets to trade Cook and right the hot hand in Hall.
Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys make perfect sense as a landing spot for Cook. Though Tony Pollard (370 rushing yards and two touchdowns) is off to a strong start, the fact is that Dallas’ offense functioned better when they featured two workhorse running backs.
Releasing Ezekiel Elliott in a cap-saving move was necessary, but the Cowboys aren’t getting much from the running backs not named Pollard. Throw in Dak Prescott’s early-season struggles, and it’s obvious that Dallas could use a player like Cook to bolster the offense.
With Cook seeing almost no usage in New York, the Cowboys could get him for the low price of a late-round pick. A 2025 sixth-round pick for the four-time 1,000-yard rusher should be enough to entice the Jets, who are better off getting something for Cook in a trade.

A running back duo of Pollard and Cook would make life that much easier for Dak and the Cowboys’ inconsistent passing game. It’s a low-risk move with potentially very high reward moves for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
