With DeAndre Hopkins now a member of the Tennessee Titans, four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook is the biggest name available on the free agent market.
It’s been more than a month now since the Minnesota Vikings cut their star running back in a cap-saving move. Cook remains a free agent despite consistent and strong production, with four straight 1,000-yard seasons under his belt.
Cook returned to Minnesota to run a youth football camp. There, he provided an update on his free agent decision while speaking to Matt Kennedy of KSTP:
“At this moment, it’s kinda just taking my time and being patient with the process. You can’t rush this. This is a life decision…I’m just taking my time and not rushing it. When I make that decision it’s going to be right for me and my family.”
The Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are among the clubs who’ve been widely linked to Cook. Buffalo drafted Dalvin’s younger brother, James, last year.
On top of that, the Bills and Dolphins have lacked elite running back production for quite some time. Miami and Buffalo haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2016 and 2017 with Jay Ajayi and LeSean McCoy, respectively.

But it’s actually the New England Patriots who are listed as the favorites to sign Cook. This is interesting since they already have a 1,000-yard rusher on their roster in Rhamondre Stevenson.
Cook did average a career-low 4.4 yards per carry last season, but he still finished the year with 1,173 rushing yards (the second-best mark of his career) and eight rushing scores to go along with 39 receptions for 295 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
