There are reportedly three favorites to land star free agent running back Dalvin Cook.
According to AFC East reporter Henry McKenna of FOX Sports, three clubs in that division are the front-runners for the four-time Pro Bowler: The Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and New York Jets.
McKenna’s report noted that those three clubs are “among” six teams interested in the 27-year-old.
Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh has hinted that his team is interested in Cook. The Jets’ top running back, Breece Hall, is recovering from a season-ending ACL tear that ended his promising 2022 rookie campaign.
Miami hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2016, when Jay Ajayi managed to hit the mark. Their leading rusher of 2022 was oft-injured 31-year-old veteran Raheem Mostert, who recorded 891 rushing yards.

As for the Patriots, Bill Belichick has never been shy to take a flier on veterans who were seemingly past their primes (see Corey Dillon and Randy Moss). So it wouldn’t be a surprise if he decided to sign Cook, who would form a dynamic 1-2 duo with Rhamondre Stevenson.
Last month, the Minnesota Vikings released Cook in a cap-saving move despite the fact that he’s exceeded 1,000 yards rushing in each of the last four years. Last season, the Florida State product recorded 1,173 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
For his career, Cook has 5,993 rushing yards and 47 rushing touchdowns.
