Dalton Schultz screwed himself big time.
The former Dallas Cowboys tight end played under the $10.9 million franchise tag last season, but according to a report from Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Schultz would still be a Cowboy had he agreed to the team’s three-year, $36 million offer.
Breer said Dallas extended it “at one point.”
Schult decided to try his hand at free agency this year and he found himself signing with the Houston Texans this week for a deal “up to” $9 million. He will get to $9 million if he hits particular incentives.
However, the tight end’s agent released a statement on Twitter Monday denying the report’s validity.
“This is 100% inaccurate,” Steve Caric of Caric Sports Management said in a since-deleted tweet.

Schultz had 57 catches for 577 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games last season. In 2021, he made 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games.
He will now play on a one-year prove-it deal to see if he can get a much bigger deal in 2024.
Whatever the case might be, it appears someone fumbled a massive bag and now his bank account has to feel the pain.
