The Dallas Cowboys recently traded for former #3 overall pick Trey Lance, but fans are praising the Boys for a classy move this weekend.
During the trade process, Dallas was in contact with current backup Will Grier who was old that he won’t be on the team’s final roster. Despite this, Dallas is letting Grier start and finish their final preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders as a farewell.
By allowing Grier to play in their final game, Dallas is essentially letting him showcase his talent to any team looking for a backup. Dallas, who has Super Bowl aspirations, has a set rotation behind starter Dak Prescott, with Cooper Rush and now Lance. Grier will have a chance to show the NFL what his value is.
Ironically, Lance found himself in a similar position for the San Francisco 49ers. Lance never had a chance to showcase his abilities due to injuries and depth at the QB position, which led to him being the odd man out. San Francisco made the decision to move on from the player just before his 3rd season with the perennial contender.
The Cowboys amazingly gave a chance to Lance, but is allowing Grier to play his way not a league rotation. With both players getting a fresh start though this move, both Lance and Grier deserve the best situation for their growth moving forward.
Fans were loving it.
