Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million deal to stay in Dallas back in 2021 and the team would love it if he could lead the franchise to the NFC Championship game or Super Bowl, somewhere they haven’t been since the mid-90s.
Dallas had one of the best offenses in the NFL last season, ranking fourth in the league with 27.5 points per game.
The offense is expected to be just as high-scoring, but that is not the issue with the team right now. It is often the erratic play of Dak Prescott at times that has cost them big time when the games really mattered.
David Howman of SB Nation’s Blogging the Boys is now suggesting that the team should consider signing former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Bryce Perkins, who worked out for the team last week.
Howman further argued that the team could look for another quarterback to serve as a developmental prospect on the practice squad.
“But perhaps Dallas will instead opt for a more developmental quarterback as their practice squad QB3 and let Grier battle Cooper Rush just for that backup spot,” writes Howman. “Whether or not that’s the case, adding Bryce Perkins to this quarterback room makes too much sense. Rush has shown his ability to function at an adequate level as a backup, and Grier had some fans in the building last year before missing time in the preseason with an injury. But neither of them possess the athleticism of Perkins, a veritable dual-threat quarterback.”
Perkins has very little experience over the course of his first three seasons in the league. He has only appeared in five games. Despite not playing much, he did serve as a backup to Matthew Stafford over the past two seasons, winning a championship ring as the Rams won the Super Bowl.

This season will be a big difference as head coach Mike McCarthy seizes control of playcalling after offensive coordinator Kellen Moore took the same job with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Prescott was nearly flawless in the Wild Card Round victory over the Tampa Bay Bucs, throwing four touchdown passes with one rushing touchdown and zero interceptions. However, things got bad for him the following week.
Last year, Prescott tied for the NFL lead with 15 interceptions despite playing only 12 games.
His turnovers were especially costly in a low-scoring battle against the 49ers in the playoffs. The Cowboys were eliminated by the 49ers for the second straight season.
The Cowboys will be expecting more from a player averaging $40 million per year.
