The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly set to interview two former NFL head coaches for their defensive coordinator vacancy.
According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, the Cowboys are planning to interview former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and former Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders HC Ron Rivera for the defensive coordinator role.
Dallas’ DC vacancy opened up on Thursday after Dan Quinn accepted the Commanders’ head coaching position. Quinn was with Dallas from 2021 to 2023, and the team boasted a top-10 defense in each of his three years on the job.
Zimmer was head coach of the Vikings from 2014 to 2021, compiling a 72-56-1 record. He was a Cowboys assistant from 1994 to 2006, winning a Super Bowl ring in the 1995 season as the defensive backs coach.
As the Panthers’ head coach (2011 to 2019), Rivera went 76-63-1 and led Carolina to four playoff appearances and a trip to Super Bowl 50. In his four years with the Commanders (2020 to 2023), Rivera went 26-40-1.
