The Dallas Cowboys appear to have interest in one of the big-named quarterback prospects of this year’s draft.
Per a report from Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, TCU Horned Frogs signal-caller Max Duggan “worked out for the Cowboys during the buildup of the NFL draft.” Watkins added that two other quarterbacks in Houston’s Clayton Tune and Jason Shelley II of Missouri State also worked for Dallas.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Duggan led TCU to a surprise national championship game appearance in 2022. But the Horned Frogs were no match for the defending champion Georgia Bulldogs, who cruised to a 65-7 victory for a second consecutive title.
In 2022, Duggan completed 63.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,698 yards and 32 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Duggan, who surpassed 500 yards rushing in both 2019 and 2020, also had 423 rushing yards and nine TDS on the ground.
The top four quarterback prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class are Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Florida’s Anthony Richardson and Kentucky’s Will Levis. Young and Stroud are widely projected to be the top two selections, owned by the Carolina Panthers (first overall) and Houston Texans (second).
The Cowboys are set at quarterback with Dak Prescott, but of course, they also appeared to be locked in with Tony Romo when they selected Prescott 135th overall in 2016. And we know how that worked out for America’s Team.
Duggan is projected to be a late-round draft selection. For what it’s worth, Dallas holds the No. 26, No. 58, No. 90, No. 129, No. 169. No. 212 and No. 244 selections in this month’s draft.
