A Dallas Cowboys insider has delivered an update on the team’s rumored pursuit of Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris.
The Cowboys have been linked with the backfield star following the Steelers’ decision to pass on his fifth-year option, even after bringing Ezekiel Elliott back.
But NFL Network’s Jane Slater has poured cold water on the reports, branding them “click bait.”
Harris has played every game for the Steelers since entering the league and has passed the 1,000-yard mark in each of his three seasons, so it came as a surprise when the team declined his fifth-year option.
The clause would have paid the player $6.8 million in 2025, but he is now set to become an unrestricted free agent now that he’s headed into the final year of his rookie deal.

Najee Harris Might Not Be Done In Pittsburgh Just Yet
The decision doesn’t necessarily mean the player is leaving Pittsburg, though.
According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, the Steelers haven’t ruled out agreeing to a deal with the RB next season and want to assess how he and their other backs adjust to the new offensive system put in place by new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith before making any long-term plans.
The Cowboys lost starting running back Tony Pollard in free agency; he has since signed with the Tennessee Titans. The team opted to bring Elliott back for at least one season but could still use another option at the position as Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn haven’t exactly convinced.
Unfortunately for hopeful Cowboys fans, there’s nothing to the Najee Harris rumors. The player should also be extra motivated to prove his worth to his current team.
