The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly among the clubs who have met with one of the top 2023 NFL Draft quarterback prospects in Hendon Hooker of the Tennessee Volunteers.
According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, the Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders have all “met exclusively with” the 25-year-old Hooker.
The Panthers, Saints and Raiders all have a void to fill at quarterback. The Giants will have one too if they don’t manage to retain pending free agent Daniel Jones. But the Cowboys are an interesting club here because they already have a franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott.
But Jerry Jones’ track record tells us that we can’t be surprised by anything. He wanted to draft Johnny Manziel back in 2014 when the Cowboys already had Tony Romo in the fold. Two years later, Dallas took Prescott in the fourth round (135th overall), and they obviously don’t regret that pick.
The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Hooker completed 69.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,135 yards, 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions. The former Virginia Tech Hokies QB also rushed for 430 yards and five touchdowns.
Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Kentucky’s Will Levis are projected to be the top-three quarterbacks taken. But Hooker could also very well emerge as a difference-maker for whichever team selects him.
