The Dallas Cowboys won’t be getting rid of Mike McCarthy following their recent playoff exit, but they will be cutting ties with at least two members of the coaching staff.
That is according to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, who reports that linebackers coach George Edwards and running backs coach Skip Peete will not be with the team next season. Both coaches were on expiring contracts and it appears Jerry Jones isn’t so keen on renewing them.
Edwards has been in the league for over 20 years. He worked as a defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders, and Minnesota Vikings before taking up the role of linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins.
Peete is a longtime staffer as well, having been an NFL running backs coach since 1998. He joined the Cowboys in 2007 before leaving in 2013 to work for the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams. He returned in 2020.
More changes are expected to be rung in the coming weeks. McCarthy’s job, however, is safe for the time being.
