Football fans are teeing off on Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones over his latest comments on the team going “all in” this offseason.
Back in January, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said his team had a strategy of going “all in” for the 2024 offseason. But to date, Dallas has not made a single blockbuster trade or free agent signing.
During an appearance on the “K&C Masterpiece” program on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Stephen Jones was asked about the team’s quiet offseason, noting that they’ve spent the fewest dollars in 2024 free agency.
Here’s what Jones said:
“All 32 (teams) can only spend the same amount of money over a five-year stretch…we max out our salary cap every year. We will have done that (this year). What comes with having a good roster, which we do, we also are looking towards signing our own guys.
Players like Dak (Prescott) and Micah (Parsons) and CeeDee (Lamb)…you have to hold money back if you want to have a realistic chance at signing those guys.”

And let’s just say that fans weren’t at all picking up what Jones was putting down. Instead, fans used the opportunity to torch Jones and the Cowboys for their surprisingly quiet offseason to date:
The long list of notable players who’ve left the Cowboys this offseason include offensive linemen Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz, two-time 1,000-yard rusher Tony Pollard, defensive linemen Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler Jr., safety Jayron Kearse and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
2024 Is A Pivotal Year For The Dallas Cowboys
It feels like major changes could be coming to the Dallas Cowboys if the franchise does not endure a deep postseason run once and for all in 2024.
Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract. Many expect head coach Mike McCarthy to be canned if Dallas also fails to go on a lengthy postseason run next January. And who knows? CeeDee Lamb and/or Micah Parsons might not want to stick around long-term if contract extension talks don’t go well.
Jerry Jones rarely makes changes at head coach and quarterback, but at some point, you have to wonder if his patience with the Prescott and McCarthy-led core is wearing thin. If the Dallas Cowboys can’t break through in 2024, then significant changes may come to America’s Team in a year’s time.
