There’s speculation going around that an NFC contender could be a landing spot for one of the Dallas Cowboys’ star defensive players.
Mike Fisher of CowboysSI.com looked at seven Dallas players that may be trade candidates. One of those players is defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr., who’s coming off a career year in which he tallied 8.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries:
“We think this is a silly idea – he’s a stud on an affordable contract. But Armstrong is out of contract after this season. So…are the Cowboys so deep at defensive end that they’d rather trade Armstrong (some have suggested a fourth-round pick) rather than play him in 2023 before letting him go free in 2023…and then netting a pick not dissimilar to the one being gossiped about?”
Fisher cited a note from ESPN’s Dan Graziano, who recently wrote that we shouldn’t be surprised if
a team like the Seahawks “looking for defensive line depth come calling to see if Dallas wants to trade someone away rather than cut them.”
But citing a source within the Seahawks’ organization, Fisher reports that the NFC West team “is presently satisfied with its group.”
Seattle GM John Schneider addressed the team’s need for extra depth in the front seven this offseason. He brought back two old friends in All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner on a one-year deal and defensive end Jarran Reed on a two-year pact. Schneider also signed ex-Denver Bronco Dre’Mont to a three-year deal.

So the Seahawks aren’t exactly in need of extra pass rushing help, but if a player like Armstrong Jr. hits the trade block, a team in win-now mode like Seattle could be tempted to pursue a trade.
But Dallas might also be keen to keep Armstrong Jr. the rest of the way, knowing that he gives them a better shot at winning a Super Bowl. Armstrong Jr., Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence form a prolific pass rushing trio that should once again cause headaches for opposing offenses.
