The Dallas Cowboys have made a stunning roster decision on veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott ahead of Sunday’s regular season finale against the Washington Commanders.
Per NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Dallas Cowboys have released Ezekiel Elliott before their final game of 2024. The two-time rushing champion heads to waivers and could be picked up by another team ahead of the postseason that commences on Jan. 11.
After a one-year stint with the New England Patriots, Elliott returned to the Cowboys on a one-year pact in free agency. His second tenure with Dallas concludes with 226 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 15 game appearances.

Ezekiel Elliott was released by Dallas in 2023 after Tony Pollard emerged as the new lead RB in Dallas. This year, Rico Dowdle stepped up as the Cowboys’ No. 1 running back and crossed the 1,000-yard mark in Sunday’s road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ezekiel Elliott Can Pursue A Ring Elsewhere
The Cowboys did Elliott a favor by deciding to release him ahead of Week 18. The 29-year-old now gets the opportunity to pursue a championship ring with a playoff team, and Elliott’s experience should make him attractive to clubs looking to bolster their RB depth.
