For the second consecutive season, the Dallas Cowboys were bounced early from the NFL playoffs by their long time rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. It appears as though Dallas has reached their ceiling with Dak Prescott as their quarterback and according to one long time Cowboys insider, the franchise could potentially be looking to draft a quarterback in this years upcoming NFL Draft.
According to Mike Fisher, who has covered the Dallas Cowboys since 1990, the Cowboys are very ‘intrigued’ by two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, quarterback C.J. Stroud of Ohio State University.
Dallas currently holds the 26th pick in the 1st round and Stroud is projected to go much higher than that, so a blockbuster trade would be needed in order for the Cowboys to jump far enough up to draft him. Further complicating this scenario is the fact that a number of teams at the top of the draft are in desperate need of a quarterback, including the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders to name a few.
If this trade were to come to fruition, Dak Prescott would likely have to head the other way as Dak still has two years and $80 million remaining on the four-year deal he signed less than two years ago. With the Jones’ constantly stating that Prescott is their QB of the future, it is difficult seeing this scenario play out, but this is the NFL, where anything is possible. Stay Tuned.
