We have never seen this one before.
The Dallas Cowboys needed some help. They were looking for anything that could fire them up as they trailed the Denver Broncos by 16 points at half. And, for a moment, it looked like they had gotten exactly what they needed when they blocked the punt from the Broncos.
What looked like great field position turned into a replay review that would give the Broncos the ball back, despite the fact that the didn’t advance the ball past the first down marker after recovering the block.
That’s because it was ruled a muffed punt after another Cowboys player touched the ball beyond the line of scrimmage once it was blocked. That meant when the Broncos recovered it, they had essentially recovered the muff, giving them possession of the ball and a fresh set of downs.
