The Cowboys’ upcoming training camp has cast an unwelcome shadow for several Southern California locals and now things could get handled in the court of law.
Training camp is less than a week away as the Cowboys are set to report to Oxnard, Calif. on July 24. This will be the 17th time in Oxnard, and the 44th year the Cowboys have held camp in the state of California.
This time around, a decision that was made has upset residents.
According to On3.com, Oxford residents have hired attorneys and filed compliments against the Cowboys about their training camp facility.
“The team employed a construction crew to erect temporary structures that are now inches from their backyard walls, adjacent to their practice fields. The residents who spoke to the Dallas Morning News said the construction work began without notice. The temporary structures are now blocking their views.
“The team is planning to use the tent-like platforms to entertain guests during camp practices in Oxnard, a club spokesperson told the DMN.”
The complaint was filed by nine residents from five households as attorney Eric Hawes accused the Cowboys of starting construction on a structure “on the lot line with no setback and without a building permit or a special use permit.”

The Cowboys refuted this claim on Friday, stating that the city had approved all plans. However, they requested a white tent to be added, but that has become a problem for residents.
Oxnard resident Warner Cutbill is a Cowboys fan who said the structure near his yard has soured his view. He even said that he recently bought a Ring camera over concerns that someone may climb the structure’s staircase and enter his yard.
“It’s horrendous,” Cutbill said. “I was so excited for this camp to come up. Now, I wish it was gone at a certain point almost. I can’t see myself being excited to go out there and watch at all. I just want to get away at this point.”
He feels “betrayed,” and that he won’t be flying the Cowboys flag that he normally has in his second-story window each training camp.
The Cowboys are coming off a season where they were eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers for the second-straight season. They have failed once again to reach the NFC Championship game since the mid-90s.
