Well, this is awkward.
An old tweet of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ripping on Tony Romo back in 2012 has resurfaced, when No. 4 was just 19 years of age.
Cowboys reporter David Helman of FOX Sports dug up the 11-year-old tweet, which was posted by Dak after Dallas lost a win-or-go-home Week 17 contest against Washington with the NFC East division on the line:
The tweet was shared by Helman after Prescott made comments about dealing with backlash from fans on social media.
Prescott’s old tweet is especially awkward because he was teammates with Romo back in his 2016 rookie season. Romo suffered a back injury in preseason play, which forced Dallas to put its rookie fourth-round pick in at QB.
Prescott turned in a phenomenal rookie year and led Dallas to 13 wins and the NFC’s top seed, though they were ousted by the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. Romo, who was in his 11th season as Dallas’ starter, handled the whole losing-his-starting-job thing with class.

Dallas was expected to trade Romo in the 2017 offseason, but he wound up being released from his contract. Romo then announced his retirement before moving into the CBS broadcast booth, where he works alongside legendary commentator Jim Nantz.
Prescott has led the Cowboys to the postseason four times (2016, 2018, 2021 and 2022) through his first seven seasons. The Cowboys (7-3) host the Washington Commanders on Thursday night.
