Dak Prescott has disclosed some of the planning that went into the Cowboys’ celebration on Thursday.
Dallas put additional distance between themselves and the Washington Commanders in the NFC East with a Thanksgiving Day win over the latter. And they had another cool celebration in store, again involving a Salvation Amy kettle.
Staying true to the holiday, Cowboys players pulled out a turkey leg from the kettle after Prescott threw a touchdown pass to KaVontae Turpin; and they went in on it.
Of course, this wasn’t random; the Cowboys don’t store meat in the kettle every game. But there was still a lot that went into it as Dak revealed that conversations spanned around three days as the timing had to be perfect. You don’t want to end up losing a game after such a celebration as you’ll never be able to live it down.
The quarterback told reporters that there was “probably a two, three-day long process of whether it [would] be a 15-yard penalty and whether coach [Mike McCarthy] would accept it.”
“I actually go talk to coach before every game and sure enough, I caught him as he was talking to Jerry [Jones] and I mentioned it,” he explained. “Of course, Jerry liked it so, yeah.
“At that point my direction was just to make sure we’re up and the game was in hand and so the touchdown to CeeDee [Lamb] and the following two-point conversion, if you watch I’m kind of like, ‘Is it time? Can we do it?’ I’m like, no we’ll get another one. Sure enough, right after I threw the one to Turp, I was like, yeah let’s go for it.”
