Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering his age 30 season and there are still a ton of questions on whether he can get things done as the man behind center for the team.
Prescott’s struggles last season could be in part attributed to suffering a thumb injury in the Cowboys’ week one loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. However, he was still blasted for leading the league in interceptions despite how many games he missed, which leads you to believe he may have thrown closer to 20.
He plans on changing that this season.
Prescott downplayed his high interception total in 2022 as he prepares for the new season. He suggested the total was inflated due to other factors. He also made a bold claim.
“I know who I am,” Prescott said at his youth football camp earlier in July, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “And you can go back and take away half of those off drops. I’m not saying it’s on the receiver, but if you cut that in half then we start talking about those, nobody is talking about it.”
“Some of it is the offense and them understanding exactly where we are,” Prescott said. “Mike does an amazing job with those guys. They know where to be, why to be, when they’re getting looked at. That’s going to be a big jump. I won’t have 10 interceptions this year.”
The last time Prescott had a season in which he did not have double-digit interceptions, it was in 2020, but he was injured and played in only five games. Before that, it was 2018.
Despite missing five games during the regular season, Prescott still put up respectable numbers. In the 12 games that he did play, Prescott threw for 2,860 yards and 23 touchdowns, albeit with 15 interceptions.

Prescott has been with the Cowboys since the franchise selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. His contract only runs for the next two seasons, but owner Jerry Jones has said the team is open to an extension in order to lower the current cap hit.
