Cowboys fans held their breath Thursday when Dak Prescott left practice early with an ankle injury. The quarterback said it wasn’t a concern and showed it Friday with a full practice.
Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have some lofty expectations to live up to, so having their QB hurt already is concerning.
“I promise you I’m great,” he said. “Just being very, very precautious. Switched shoes today, probably wasn’t the best idea. We’re good to go. Promise that.”
Now, it seems his injury came because of his cleats.
Prescott, who wore Jordan 11s for games last year, said he’ll wear Jordan 1s this season, per ESPN’s Todd Archer.
“That’s this league, and if you don’t report a hangnail, you’ll get suspended or they’ll get fined, excuse me,” Prescott said. “But, no, I feel great. I still feel the best that I’ve felt in a very, very long time. Not even comparable to where I was last year going into this game. Honestly, just excited and ready for Sunday to get here.”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the same thing.

“He is fine, according to him…Here’s the situation Dak rolled out for reporter’s yesterday. Generally, he plays, he practices in Jordan 1s. Last year, he played in 11s. Yesterday, he tried some 11s during practice. They were too tight on his surgically repaired ankle. It did not go well. It is the cleat’s fault. He’s going back to 1s.”
Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle during the 2020 campaign. He fully recovered from the injury and returned last season, starting 16 games for the Cowboys.
Prescott passed for 4,449 yards and a career-high 37 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions last year.
