No one likes to see any type of injury take place during a preseason NFL game, but the one we witnessed on Saturday night in Jacksonville was especially brutal.
During the fourth quarter of a preseason contest between the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars, Dolphins wideout Daewood Davis took a vicious shot to the head that left him unconscious on the field.
Davis remained on the field for several minutes, as players from both teams huddled around while medical staff attended to him.
The undrafted rookie out of Western Kentucky was eventually carted off the field and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. The good news (via the Dolphins’ social media account) is that he was said to be conscious and moving all of his extremities.

Jaguars linebacker Dequan Jackson was flagged on the play, and there’s a very good chance he would have been ejected entirely from the contest had the two teams continued to play. The game was suspended following the incident, however, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the NFL decides to hand down any additional punishment to the Jags’ rookie.
As for Daewood, he was battling for a spot on the Dolphins’ roster as the final cuts approach. But for now, the main concern is with his health. Hopefully we’ll have some more good news on the rookie wideout soon.
