The first round of the 2019 NFL Draft took place on Thursday night, and by far the biggest surprise of the night came when the New York Giants passed on taking Dwayne Haskins and elected to take Duke QB Daniel Jones instead.
New York’s decision to take Jones has been widely criticized by the fan base and football experts. Nobody had a stronger disagreement than Cris Carter.
The hall of fame wide receiver took to his show ‘First Things First’ to suggest that there is a “racial” aspect to the fact that Jones went ahead of Haskins.
“If Dwayne Haskins, as an African American, goes to Duke and puts up those mediocre stats, 7th in the Conference, he’s not drafted Day 1 or Day 2. That stuff is racial.”
During his junior year, Jones threw for 2,674 yards and 22 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
In his sophomore year, Haskins threw for 4,831 yards with 50 touchdowns against eight interceptions.

What’s even better is that if both players actually pan out, they will be facing each other twice a year for years to come.
