Dallas Cowboys superstar linebacker Micah Parsons is pushing for the chance to play another completely different position.
Micah Parsons has emerged as one of the top defensive players in football, racking up 40.5 sacks, eight pass defenses and seven forced fumbles over his first three seasons. The Penn State has finished top three in Defensive Player of the Year voting each year, too.
If Parsons isn’t already difficult enough for opposing teams to work with, imagine if he adds a special teams returner to his repertoire.
During an appearance on the “Ross Tucker Podcast”, Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel revealed that Micah Parsons has inquired about the opportunity to be a return man on kickoffs.
“He has lobbied me in the past to just be the primary kickoff returner,” Fassel said.
Fassel added that though he’d love to to add Parsons to the kick return unit, he informed the star pass-rusher that he’d have to go to the higher-ups to talk about it. And given the major injury risk for special teams returners, one has to think that head coach Mike McCarthy wouldn’t be thrilled with that idea.

Given his elite athleticism and incredible burst off the edge, one can assume that Parsons would be highly entertaining to watch as a return man. We probably won’t see that, but one can always dream.
Micah Parsons Is In Line For A Massive Contract Extension
The Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in the NFL back in 2020, having finished 28th in scoring defense (29.6 points allowed per game). But since Parsons’ arrival, they have finished seventh or better in scoring each year.
It just goes to show how much of a difference Parsons has single-handedly made on the Dallas defense. And assuming Jerry Jones and company are keen on keeping Parsons around long-term, the latter should secure a lucrative contract extension worth well over $100 million.
Parsons, along with star wideout CeeDee Lamb, is eligible for a contract extension. So it’ll be interesting to see how Dallas goes about extending one (or both) players in the coming months.
