Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has provided a significant update on contract extension talks with the team as he heads into the final year of his current deal.
Per Cowboys.com writer Patrik Walker, Prescott told reporters that he’s “definitely confident” about an extension getting done. The 30-year-old added that things are “great” and that the new contract will “happen.”
In the 2021 offseason, Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a four-year extension worth $160 million. From Prescott’s end, it was a savvy move to maximize his earnings over the long run, because now he’s up for an even more lucrative deal.
Since Dak signed that extension, eight quarterbacks have signed deals worth $230 million-plus: Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals), Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers), Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens), Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills), Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles), Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos), Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals) and Deshaun Watson (Cleveland Browns).
Prescott will only be 31 years of age next season, and he’s a better quarterback than Wilson, Murray and Watson. So he stands to earn well over $200 million on his next deal, assuming it comes from the Cowboys.
In the 2023 season, Prescott completed 69.5 percent of his pass attempts for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns against only nine interceptions. Despite the MVP-caliber season from Prescott, Dallas endured another disappointing playoff exit with a 48-32 home loss to the Green Bay Packers.
