An NFL writer has proposed a giant blockbuster trade idea that has the Dallas Cowboys moving up in the NFL Draft to add another weapon for star quarterback Dak Prescott.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old Dak Prescott is entering the final season of the four-year, $160 million pact he signed with Dallas back in the 2021 offseason. If the Cowboys are still unsure about extending Prescott, they need to at least give him the best chance possible to flourish next season.
That means making a blockbuster trade or two between now and Week 1. And in his latest first-round mock draft, NFL.com’s Eric Edholm has the Cowboys making such a move to help Prescott and the passing game.
In his mock draft, Edholm projected that the Cowboys will trade up into the No. 19 spot via the Los Angeles Rams, who would move down to 24. Edholm then projected the Cowboys to select LSU speedster and star wideout Brian Thomas Jr.:
“The Cowboys don’t have a ton of extra picks laying around, but I could see them being aggressive with Thomas surprisingly still on the board at this juncture. Dallas really needs to add pass-catching threats and might have to trade up to ensure landing one like this LSU product. He’s an explosive talent who can help shield CeeDee Lamb from seeing so many tricked-up coverages.”

Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers (widely expected to be a top-10 pick) formed an explosive pass-catching tandem in their final year together at LSU. The former caught 68 passes for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 17.3 yards per carry.
Dak Prescott Could Use Another Star WR
Dallas finished with the No. 1 scoring offense in 2023, but the lack of a true No. 2 WR to help CeeDee Lamb proved costly in their stunning Wild Card Round loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys need a capable 1,000-yard wideout to complement Lamb, and a player like Brian Thomas Jr. could supply it. The latter and fellow deep threat Brandin Cooks would command plenty of attention and help open up even more space for Lamb.
Dallas might not even have to trade up to land a top WR prospect like Thomas Jr. But at some point in the next several months, it’s imperative for Jerry Jones to bring in at least one more quality pass-catcher to help Prescott in his contract year.
