A few days ago, former NFL running back Peyton Hillis was taken off a ventilator and was said to be recovering well after suffering a swimming accident while saving his two children who were caught in a riptide.
His family member said he suffered kidney and lung damage and had to be helicoptered to the hospital after jumping into the ocean in Pensacola Beach, Florida. Because of his actions, his children were unharmed and did not require medical attention.
Taking to Twitter and Instagram on Friday, Dallas Cowboys legend posted a picture of himself with Hillis after visiting with him in the hospital.
“I had the opportunity to visit a recovering hero this week, Peyton Hillis. Stay strong Peyton! Praying for you, your family and wishing you a speedy recovery,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
The 36-year-old played seven NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants. He’s best remembered for a breakout 2010 season in Cleveland that saw him rush for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Hillis retired from football in 2015 with 2,832 yards and 23 touchdowns across his professional career.
