Just like last offseason, many questions continue to mount as to Dak Prescott’s future in Dallas. The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on the star last offseason and now a legendary Cowboys wide receiver is speaking out with a stern message to the franchise.
Newly minted Hall of Famer Drew Pearson issued a warning to the Cowboys’ front office over potentially franchise-tagging Dak again and losing him for good next offseason.
“Where do you go if you don’t sign Dak? If you let him go, especially if you let him play under the franchise tag this season and you don’t sign him anywhere along the line to a long term contract, Dak ain’t gonna be here after that. The man has a lot of pride and he sees what’s going on. He wants to be quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. It is a big deal.” Pearson told the D.A. Show on Friday.
“If he has to play the full season under that franchise tag, Jerry’s really taking a risk in that case…not only with Dak as a quarterback of the Cowboys, but within the rest of that football team because Dak has a tremendous influence in that locker room. He is the leader. He sets the pace.”
Prescott reportedly turned down a 5-year deal that would have paid roughly $34.5 million annually and included $110 million in guarantees, but he wants a shorter deal to be able to test the free agent market once again when the NFL’s TV money kicks in.
As for Pearson, the Hall of Fame finally came calling in 2021 after over 30 years of waiting. “It feels really good. This is why I wanted it so bad because the feeling you get by being recognized as one of the greatest that ever played the game and you’re joining a team of individuals that are the greatest that played the game and you’re on that team for life.”
