Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admits that there’s interest in signing one of the top names available on the 2022 NFL free agent market.
Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, Jones stated that he has interest in veteran wideout Odell Beckham Jr., a free agent who didn’t play at all in 2022 as he continued to recover from surgery on the ACL tear he suffered in last year’s Super Bowl.
“He’s somebody that I have the same kind of interest that I had in him during the season,” Jones said.
Last year, the Cowboys curiously traded away veteran Pro Bowler Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in a cap-dumping move. Though Dallas repeated last year’s win total (12), the passing game was largely inconsistent without Cooper.
CeeDee Lamb tuned in another 1,000-yard season, but tight end Dalton Schultz was a distant second in team receiving with just 577 yards. After him was veteran Noah Brown, who finished with 555 receiving yards.
Beckham, a three-time Pro Bowler, showed signs of his old self when he joined the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 following his release from the Cleveland Browns. The 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year suited up in eight games for the Rams, recording 27 receptions for 305 yards and five touchdowns.

Beckham took his game to another level in the postseason, hauling in 21 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four playoff games. The Rams went on to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl.
Given his age (31 in November) and injury history, Beckham shouldn’t cost too much on the open market. We’ll soon find out if the Cowboys are successful in recruiting a player that’s admittedly on Jones’ radar.
