Motivational tactics are an important part of being a coach in any sport. Every coach has their own technique when it comes to inspiring their players to go out and put forth their best effort. Some coaches might use a quote or story. Others might use props…
And, in Mike McCarthy’s case, the Dallas Cowboys coach uses…wait for it…Monkey Butt!
You read that right. Prior to the Cowboys’ 43-3 beatdown of the Falcons, McCarthy turned to Monkey Butt to help get his team fired up for their week 10 contest. More specifically, he dubbed the week “Red Ass Week” following their embarrassing week 9 loss to the Broncos. McCarthy challenged his team to “get mad, take it personally, then get out on the field and take it out on the Falcons.” And to really drive the point home, he had members of the Cowboys staff hand out Monkey Butt to the players during the week.
For those wondering what Monkey Butt is, it’s an anti-chaffing powder that, as NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero put it, might be used by an individual if their butt hurts after having it kicked.
I can definitely see some sort of endorsement deal coming out of this.
