Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy provided an interesting evaluation for the offseason performance of Dak Prescott up to this point.
The 30-year-old Dak Prescott is entering the final season of the four-year, $160 million extension he signed in the 2021 offseason. With an extension not yet in place, some can’t help but wonder if Dallas owner Jerry Jones is pondering a future without No. 4.
Every year, several notable players skip team workouts and practices until they get a new contract. Prescott has shown up and worked tirelessly during practices, however, and McCarthy is thrilled with what he’s seen up to this point.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, McCarthy said this is the best Prescott has looked in the offseason during his tenure as head coach, per Nick Harris of the Cowboys’ official team website:
“I think Dak is having his best offseason program that we’ve had. This atmosphere that we’ve practiced in with the quarterback and receivers has really hit the mark. I’ve been very impressed with the quality of work.”

Dak Prescott finished second in MVP voting last season, behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Prescott had a career year that saw him complete 69.5 percent of pass attempts for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and only nine interceptions.
But it was the same old song and dance in Big D once the playoffs rolled around. Dallas followed up a superb regular season with a stinker in the playoffs, losing 48-32 to Jordan Love’s Green Bay Packers on Wild Card Weekend.
Prescott is 2-5 in the postseason through his first eight NFL seasons. Perhaps no player is facing more pressure to succeed this year than the soon-to-be 31-year-old, who has been nothing short of excellent during the regular season.
Dak Prescott & Cowboys Open Season vs. Browns
Dak and the Cowboys will be tested early in 2024, as they’re set to begin the season with a road contest against the Cleveland browns, another playoff team from 2023.
There’s extra excitement around this game because it marks Tom Brady’s debut as an analyst for the “NFL on FOX”. He’ll be on the call with play-by-play voice Kevin Burkhardt and sideline reporter Erin Andrews.
