It’s sad that this even needs to be sad.
Late in the game between the Cowboys and 49ers — Neville Gallimore, a Cowboys defensive lineman, had a crushing illegal hands to the face penalty late in the 23-17 loss. It extended a drive that would’ve left a ton of more time on the clock for the team.
Gallimore saw the hate online, and promptly took to Twitter to plead with the fan base to keep his family out of it.
“I deserve all the hate and slander. Cowboys nation I let y’all down. Put it all on me, all I ask is you leave my family out of this. I played the game they didn’t,” he tweeted.
The penalty was bad, but the Cowboys can point to a ton of things that caused them to lose Sunday night.
After the Cowboys got the ball back at their own 20 with 32 seconds left and no timeouts, Prescott used short completions along the sideline to advance the ball into San Francisco territory with 14 seconds left. Facing 2nd-and-1 at the 49ers’ 41-yard line, Prescott rushed up the middle for a 17-yard gain. That was a bad idea.

As the Cowboys attempted to line up, the referee ran from the backfield and collided with the offensive line while trying to spot the ball. Time ran out on the Cowboys and their season.
