NFL fans are offering support for Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy after it was announced that he’d be away from the team’s rookie minicamp this weekend.
Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, the 59-year-old McCarthy underwent a back procedure earlier this week. With McCarthy recovering, the Cowboys will run the rookie minicamp without their well-respected head coach.
After hearing the news, NFL fans took to Twitter and shared some kind messages for McCarthy.

McCarthy, who previously coached the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018, is entering his fourth season as the Cowboys’ head coach. He was hired by Jerry Jones in 2020 following the departure of Jason Garrett.
The Cowboys struggled to a 6-10 finish in 2020 without star quarterback Dak Prescott, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5. But Dallas followed it up with back-to-back 12-win seasons under McCarthy, including an NFC East division crown in 2021.
Dallas defeated Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round (the final game of Brady’s illustrious career), before falling to the rival San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
The Cowboys have not reached the NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season, when they went on to win their third Super Bowl of the ’90s decade. It may very well take McCarthy a trip to the final four, or even all the way to the Super Bowl, to save his job in Dallas.
