Denver Broncos’ standout receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy have been widely mentioned in trade rumors throughout the offseason, despite new head coach Sean Payton previously stating that the club isn’t shopping either player.
Considering what the Broncos gave up to a) acquire quarterback Russell Wilson last offseason and b) land Payton from the New Orleans Saints earlier this year, it’s hard to envision the club dealing either of their top two wideouts with the regular season just over a month away.
But if the right offer comes along, GM George Paton just might be willing to deal one of Wilson’s most trusted wideouts. Could such an offer come from one of the Broncos’ AFC rivals?
Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton listed five NFL teams that need to make a “splashy” move. For the New England Patriots, Moton proposed the idea of Bill Belichick and company trading for Sutton:
“Because the New England Patriots missed out on DeAndre Hopkins, they may be willing to pay a high price for another starting-caliber receiver.
Moreover, the Patriots may have concerns about wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, who, according to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi, wasn’t 100 percent at mandatory minicamp because of a lingering knee injury from last season.
The Patriots could try to acquire a lead wide receiver in exchange for a second-round pick—a quality addition that would aid third-year quarterback Mac Jones’ development.”
The Patriots could certainly use a wideout of Sutton’s caliber. They haven’t had a pass-catcher put up 1,000 yards since Julian Edelman in 2019, the last of the Tom Brady Era in Foxborough.
