Lamar Jackson might be the next disgruntled QB in the league as he and the Baltimore Ravens are reportedly in the early stages of talking about a contract extension, but things have not progressed well in the beginning.
According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, “Two sources said Jackson and the Ravens have started talking about a contract extension, but the sides are far apart. One problem for Jackson is that he still has two years left on his deal and is only making $1.77 million in 2021.”
Jackson’s current contract will pay him $1.7 million in 2021, and the Ravens can exercise their fifth-year option to retain him in 2022.
The 24-year-old will surely get his payday as he has already led the Ravens to three playoff appearances in his three seasons and was named the 2019 NFL MVP. This past postseason, he finally got his first victory with a huge win over the Tennessee Titans.
This past past 2020 regular season, Jackson passed for 2,757 yards and 26 touchdowns. That came after a 2019 year where he racked up 3,127 yards and 36 TDs in 2019.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said in January he is “totally certain” the team will reach a long-term agreement with Jackson.
