Having a commercial run during the Super Bowl is akin to finding undiscovered acres of gold. It’s the most coveted ad space on the planet, so getting one costs a pretty penny.
The word penny actually doesn’t do this justice at all. Because according to sports business expert Joe Pompliano, running a 30-second ad during the big game would set you back a whopping $7 million in 2023, a half-a-million dollar rise from last year and $1.5 million more than the year before.
A commercial of the same length cost $42,000 in 1967. Talk about inflation, but that was still a lot of money back then. The price crossed the million-dollar threshold in 1995 and, nearly 30 years later, it’s at a cool 7 mil.
You could check the breakdown in Pompliano’s tweet right below.
The Super Bowl is the most-watched event in the United States but also garners international attention. Of course, it pales in comparison to the World Cup, but soccer’s crowning moment only comes around every four years.
The most-watched Super Bowl (also the most-watched event in the U.S.), to date, was Super Bowl 49 in 2015 between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. This year’s game will feature the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
