The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced having shut rookie cornerback Cory Trice down for the season following a right leg injury suffered in training on Tuesday.
Trice sustained a non-contact injury during the Steelers’ first padded practice and could not stand on his own thereafter, with trainers having to take him off the field via cart.
While the exact nature of the injury is still unknown, the team has announced that they’ve placed him on the Injured Reserve, which means he will not make any appearances in his rookie season.
The 23-year-old had been handed a chance to compete for a spot on Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster after being selected out of the seventh round this year.
The team has since signed defensive backs Trenton Thompson and Isaiah Dunn to their roster to cover.
“The Steelers signed safety Trenton Thompson and cornerback Isaiah Dunn, and placed rookie Cory Trice Jr. on the Reserved/Injured List after he was injured in practice on Tuesday,” a statement from the Steelers reads. In addition, the team Waived/Injured running back Alfonzo Graham.”

The former attended San Diego State, where he logged 187 tackles, 12 tackles for, four interceptions, and 21 pass deflections. The latter recorded 115 tackles and 18 pass deflections at Oregon State.
The Steelers have also announced that running back Alfonzo Graham has been waived/injured.
