It appears as though Los Angeles Rams’ star wide receiver Cooper Kupp is awfully close to returning to the field.
The 2021 Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl 56 MVP was placed on the IR at the start of the year with a hamstring injury. Per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, LA head coach Sean McVay said “the hope” is that Kupp will return for Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
McVay added that the 30-year-old is “ramping up his workload” and “progressing”, via Barshop.
With Kupp placed on the IR, he was automatically ruled out for the Rams’ first four games. The 2021 Pro Bowler also missed eight games last year with an ankle injury.
In Kupp’s absence, the Rams (1-2) have gotten phenomenal production out of rookie Puka Nacua (30 catches for 338 yards) and 23-year-old Tutu Atwell, who has 17 receptions for 246 yards and a touchdown.
The Rams opened the season with a stunning Week 1 road win over the Seattle Seahawks, only to follow that up with losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals. Kupp’s looming return can only help an offense that has struggled with consistency since the start of last year.
