The Baltimore Ravens have attached the non-exclusive franchise tag to Lamar Jackson as they were unable to reach a deal over an extension with the quarterback while the tag deadline drew near.
Although Baltimore still hopes to reach a deal with the player, he could now shop around for the best deal. So it remains to be seen what becomes of the saga, which has gotten all the more interesting given this newest development.
The Atlanta Falcons are rumored to be the favored destination for the QB and, on Tuesday, Heavy.com reported being told by a source that talks between the two teams were going very well.
“The Lamar Jackson conversation between the Ravens and Falcons progressed tremendously in Indianapolis,” the source was quoted as saying.
However, ESPN’s Dianna Russini is reporting that the Falcons will not be pursuing Jackson.

Now that the player has been tagged, teams can negotiate with him whilst remaining aware that it will cost them a pair of first-round picks. The Ravens can also match any offer sheet signed by Jackson should they choose to do so.
The former NFL MVP is coming off a season in with he missed several key games heading into the playoffs, as well as Baltimore’s lone playoff appearance. He passed for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions in 12 games in 2022.
Jackson is said to be seeking a deal that would put him on par with Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns, though the reports on that front are also conflicting as it’s said that he never asked for a fully guaranteed deal.
