Concussion expert and neuroscientist Chris Nowinski went after the NFL again on Sunday morning.
Over the years, Nowinski has become well-known for being heavily critical of the NFL in regards to their handling of concussions and head-related injuries. Nowinski was at it again during the Minneseota Vikings-New Orleans Saints Sunday morning game in London, England.
Nowinski shared a video of a Minnesota Vikings player being offered smelling salts during the game. Though it’s very common for athletes to smell salts during games, Nowinski claimed that the practice is “famous for being used to revive someone after” they’ve suffered a concussion.
Nowinski also shared an ESPN article from 2017 that details why smelling salts are often used by NFL players. The former WWE superstar called it “a bad LOOK for the NFL”.
The NFL’s concussion dilemma has been heavily discussed over the past week, following two injuries to Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

In last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa took a hit and had his head slammed into the ground. He was visibly wobbly and fell back down to the turf. Surprisingly, he wound up returning and finishing the game.
Afterwards, the Dolphins announced that Tagovailoa had a back injury. He was cleared for the team’s Week 4 game on Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.
During the second quarter of that game, a scary scene saw Tagovailoa take another hit and slam his head into the turf. Tagovailoa had to be stretchered off and taken to a hospital, but fortunately, he avoided a serious injury and was discharged from the hospital.
Backup Teddy Bridgewater finished out the game for the Dolphins, a 27-15 Cincinnati win. After the game, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel announced that Bridgewater will start the team’s Week 5 road game against the New York Jets if Tagovailoa isn’t able to play.
