It appears the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott have not progressed at all since last offseason as both sides try and iron out a long-term deal.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported over the weekend that both sides are “still not close” on a new deal as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next month.
“Sources told ESPN that the Cowboys still want to re-sign Prescott, who wants to remain in Dallas. But the sides still have plenty of work to do on a new deal, with a history of not being able to get it done,” Schefter wrote.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went on record to say that Prescott had a good negotiating position, seeing as how the team finished the year 6-10 and the offense completely fell apart without him behind center after his injury.
“I don’t know how you could have any more leverage,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.
In 2020, the Cowboys reportedly offered Prescott a 5-year deal reportedly worth $34.5 million annually with a $50 million signing bonus and $110 million guaranteed, but the QB continues to stand pat that he wants a shorter deal, so he can cash in again on a new contract when the NFL gets their TV money in.
Prescott’s 2020 season ended early after he suffered a dislocation and compound fracture of his right ankle in Week 5 against the New York Giants.

He had 1,856 yards passing, nine touchdown passes and four interceptions, but the team was just 2-3 at that time.
