The Philadelphia Eagles could be without superstar wide receiver DeVonta Smith for Sunday’s Week 18 contest against the New York Giants.
According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Smith did not participate in Thursday’s practice as he continues to deal with an ankle injury. His status for Sunday’s contest at MetLife Stadium remains unclear.
The third-year wideout was seen leaving Lincoln Financial Field on crutches and in a walking boot following the club’s stunning home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was confirmed soon after that Smith avoided a serious injury and suffered a “mild” ankle sprain.
The defending NFC Champions need a win and a Dallas Cowboys loss to the Washington Commanders in order to win a second straight NFC East division crown. Incredibly, the division hasn’t had a repeat winner since 2004, when the Eagles won their fourth straight NFC East title.
Smith is having another excellent season for Nick Sirianni’s squad, recording 81 receptions for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns. Smith needs one more TD to set a personal best, having also recorded seven receiving TDs a year ago.

The Eagles started out the season 10-1, but they have since dropped four of their last five games. That included blowout losses to the San Francisco 49ers (42-19 at home in Week 13) and to Dallas (33-13 in Week 14 on the road).
