It is official. Roger Goodell will remain the commissioner of the NFL for the foreseeable future.
Goodell took over as commissioner in 2006 after Paul Tagliabue retired from the role. He’s since signed contract extensions in 2009, 2012 and 2017. Now we can add 2023.
Roger Goodell’s extension with the NFL is “signed and finalized” to continue his run as commissioner through 2027, according to sports business reporter Daniel Kaplan.
Adam Schefter previously reported in March the new pact would be “the most lucrative deal ever given to any commissioner in any sport.”
Goodell’s prior deal was set to expire in March 2024. He is believed to have made $63.9 million in the past few seasons. The salary is largely incentive-based.
It is no secret that everybody pretty much wanted him back as Goodell has helped the owners make a fortune over the course of his 15 years in the big office.
