The Commanders are having a hard time finding a head coach, and it could be because of Caleb Williams.
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was expected to be the team’s next HC as reports claimed he was a lock for the job. However, he has informed the Commanders, as well as the Seahawks, of his intention to remain in Detroit and chase a Super Bowl there.
The Commanders and the Seahawks are the only teams without a head coach heading into the offseason, and Johnson’s decision may leave Bill Belichick feeling hopeful – we’ll see how things play out on that front.
It’s now being rumored that the job in Washington has become unattractive because the Bears are expected to draft Williams out of USC. The Bears have the No. 1 overall pick again and it was understood that they would stick with Justin Fields, leaving the Commanders free to select Williams at No. 2. However, it’s now widely believed that they will use their pick on the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner.
It’s also been reported that the Bears offensive coordinator position was one of the most coveted in the NFL because of the prospect of adding Williams. Former Seahawks OC Shane Waldron has since been appointed.

Still, Williams going to Chicago does not leave the Commanders without premium choices as current Heisman Jayden Daniels will be available, as well as the likes of Drake Maye, Micheal Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix.
