The Washington Commanders surprised many earlier this offseason when they declined the fifth-year option on 2020 second overall pick Chase Young.
With the move, the Commanders are taking the risk in potentially losing Young for nothing in free agency next year. Of course, there’s also the possibility that they end up dealing the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year before 2024 free agency opens in nine months.
Young’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors ever since the Commanders opted to decline the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. And according to the betting odds, there’s a surprise front-runner to land Young in a potential trade with Washington.
According to SportsBetting.ag, the Detroit Lions are the betting favorites to land Young at +400, followed by the Seattle Seahawks at +500. The New York Giants and Chicago Bears hold the third-best odds together at +600.
The New Orleans Saints and Houston Texans share the fourth-best odds at +700, followed by the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers (all +800).
The Lions are coming off its first winning season since 2017, having only missed out on a playoff spot due to a tiebreaker with the Seattle Seahawks. Adding Young to a defensive line led by 2022 rookie standouts Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston would certainly go a long way in helping this unit reach another level.
