Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson can start negotiating with other teams as of 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. This is unprecedented territory because the 26-year-old Jackson is the first NFL MVP quarterback under 30 to receive the nonexclusive franchise tag.
The nonexclusive franchise tag will pay Jackson $32.416 million for one season and allows him to engage in contract negotiations with the rest of the league.
All had been quiet for some time after he was slapped with the tag, but one team is reportedly thinking about bringing in the former MVP.
According to Evan Massey, the Indianapolis Colts have “given some thought” to pursue Jackson.
The Colts, who have the fourth overall pick in next month’s NFL draft, did not get a chance to trade into the No. 1 overall slot, but they are expected to take their QB of the future.
Just maybe the guy they will get won’t be on the board, so going after Jackson might be their best bet. The Colts have not recovered as a franchise since Andrew Luck’s surprise retirement in 2019. The team has gone from Philip Rivers, to Carson Wentz, to Matt Ryan. None of it has worked out.

Jackson’s list of prospective teams dwindled before he had a chance to make a call. The Panthers traded up to the No. 1 overall pick. The Dolphins are sticking by Tua Tagovailoa by exercising his fifth-year option. The Las Vegas Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo and the Saints signed Derek Carr.
