The Indianapolis Colts are thought to be gearing up to select a quarterback from this year’s NFL Draft and perhaps bring an end to one of their most glaring inconsistencies.
The Colts haven’t had a steady quarterback as part of the franchise for the last few years but, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, people around the league are of the view that they will make Will Levis their man when they go on the clock at No. 4 in the 2023 draft.
Fowler reckons Levis fits the profile of the type of QB the Colts appreciate, while the player’s former coach is reported to have said that the team has done their homework on him.
“Will Levis and the Colts, there is a little bit of buzz leaguewide about that pairing at No. 4 overall,” the reporter said during a recent episode of SportsCenter (H/T Bleacher Report). “I texted with Kentucky coach Mark Stoops, who coached Levis for a few years with the Wildcats, he said, ‘I can just say the Colts have done their homework on Levis’ and left it at that.
“Now, they’ve done their homework on a lot of guys, but I talked to several teams who believe that there could be something there. He fits the prototype of what the Colts have typically liked in a quarterback. They like that big, sturdy, pocket-passer. So, he’s got that in spades. He’s not for everybody. Not every team has loved his makeup or the way he plays, but he’s got a lot of supporters as well.”
Of course, the Colts aren’t going to have their pick of the bunch as three teams will be picking before them. The Carolina Panthers will be up first after trading to get the No. 1 pick from Chicago and are expected to acquire a signal-caller, while the Houston Texans are likely to draft one at No. 2 as well.
C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young are likely to be the first players selected, leaving Levis and Anthony Richardson as the next available QBs. The Arizona Cardinals would surprise everyone should they select a QB at No. 3, so Indianapolis should be able to get Levis if they want him, as reported.
