NFL fans are calling the league “rigged” following two controversial calls by the officials that helped the Cleveland Browns pull out a last-minute victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts strip-sacked Browns quarterback P.J. Walker in the final minute to seemingly close out a 38-33 victory. However, cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. was penalized for illegal contact on Browns wideout Amari Cooper, giving Cleveland a fresh set of downs:
And then on the next play, Baker Jr. was penalized for defensive pass interference on Donovan Peoples-Jones. That gave the Browns the ball at the one-yard line, and Kareem Hunt found the end zone on fourth down to give his team the lead.
Cleveland’s defense held on as the club escaped with a tight 39-38 victory. And hence came the “NFL is rigged” comments from social media:
