The Minnesota Vikings reportedly worked out another quarterback this Tuesday, which could indicate an intention to move on from Kirk Cousins.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, journeyman QB Colt McCoy was among eight players who had workouts with the team on the day, with the other seven unknown.
McCoy, 37, has worked with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell in the past as the HC was the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders from 2017-2019, having also operated as a passing game coordinator and offensive coordinator. The QB was with the organization from 2014-2019.
Vikings backup QB Nick Mullens is dealing with a back injury and was unavailable when the team played the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. O’Connell has since told reporters that they are being cautious with the player and will continue to assess him in order to decide whether they should make a move in the market.
“We decided to hold him out and continue to evaluate his low back injury and we’ll be kind of assessing that over the next couple of days whether we decided to make a roster move there or give him, based upon the timeline of what that looks like to get him healed, and see where that goes,” he said.
While this latest move has the look of the team looking for possible replacements for Mullens, there is chatter pertaining to a potential trade for Cousins, especially as Justin Jefferson has been placed on the injured reserve. And fans are leaning towards the latter.
