Despite being out of the NFL for the past two seasons, Colin Kaepernick continues to be a polarizing figure across the country. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback also continues to be very profitable for Nike based on the sales of his limited edition jersey.
On Wednesday, Nike released a black limited edition $150 Kaepernick jersey with white numbering and lettering that according to Kaepernick has already sold out.
“We believe Colin Kaepernick is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward,” a Nike spokesperson told The Undefeated. “The jersey marks Nike’s continued product collaboration with Colin.”
This comes on the heels of Kaepernick and Eric Reid settling their collusion case against the NFL, reportedly for a nice financial gain.
“Today, we were informed by the NFL of the settlement of the Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid collusion cases,” the NFLPA said in a statement. “We are not privy to the details of the settlement, but support the decision by the players and their counsel. We continuously supported Colin and Eric from the start of their protests, participated with their lawyers throughout their legal proceedings and were prepared to participate in the upcoming trial in pursuit of both truth and justice for what we believe the NFL and its clubs did to them. We are glad that Eric has earned a job and a new contract, and we continue to hope that Colin gets his opportunity as well.”
